Bishop Artis Decker Obituary


Rev. Artis L. Decker age 82 of Leesburg passed away Thursday January 14, at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services for Mr. Decker will be 3: P.M. Sunday at Leesburg Church of God of Prophecy with Rev. Wayne Craig, assisted by state overseer Rev. L.V. Jones, and Rev. Joshua Lynn officiating. Burial will follow at Cherokee Memory Garden. The family will receive friends at the church Sunday from 1:P.M. until the hour of service.

Pallbearers will be Grandsons: Scott Elrod, Clint Decker, Eric Bridges and Kris Parker, Great – Grandsons: Owen Mackiewicz and Josh Decker, and Brian Lowe and Dustin StClair. Honorary Pallbearers: Danny St.Clair, Isaac Goza, James Pitts, Jimmy Bridges.

Memorials may be made to the Leesburg Church of God of Prophecy Haiti church relief fund or the family will accept flowers.

Mr. Decker is survived by his wife Reba Nell Copeland Decker; son Kenneth (Sarah) Decker, Leesburg; daughters: Brenda (Billy) Elrod, East Gadsden, Nona (Jimmy) Bridges, Gadsden, Lisa Mosley, Oxford; sister; Evelyn Hull, McCalla, Al. Grandchildren; Scott and Jody Elrod, Clint Decker, Eric Bridges, Kaci Decker Lowe, Kris Parker, Randa Morgan, Three - Great-Grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Decker was preceded in death by his daughter, Lynn Parker; brother: Clarence W. Decker; sister; Tommie Lou Decker.

Mr. Decker was known in Cherokee county as “Brother Decker.” For over forty years his ministry included conducting many marriages, funerals, baby dedications, and saw many souls come to know the Lord. He retired from pastoral work in July 1999. The Lord has a record of all he has done and will reward him in heaven.
